www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/572876/i was reading about a woman at a five star restaurant dying from morell mushrooms and then saw hydrazine and my eyes perked up.hydrazine is rocket fuel! i did not know mushrooms had rocket fuel in them.

since i already have this mushroom thread,im gonna put other shroom stuff here. i had found a white morel in the woods a few years back.i had been thinking of growing shitake since i had lots of dead oak on my land.so i bought a shitake plug kit and a morel agar vial. i watched a bunch of morel videos and i already use molasses in my gardening.i already had a fish air pump and big stainless pot to grow the agar in. i already have regular chicken of the woods growing on my land so i know fungi like growing here. morels are a hit or miss thing.even the pros say dont expect, just accept. so if i have any luck.ill post back on here.i expect the shitake plugs to grow.they are pretty reliable if the plugs are healthy. i wasnt expecting to come across false morels then saw this video. i think its wise to watch for your own safety.its simple to understand.

got shitaki plugs in today, really live fungus, they seem gooey,my guess its syrup agar on plugs.company on amazon is 2funguys. real pleased with look of product. they say to wax holes after conter sinking plugs into green wood. funny, the growers on yt use saw dust in bags and blocks.no bark,no wax. the wax is suppose to seal moisture in.ill just drill holes in logs before rain comes or keep wood wet some how.when we go into rainy season here in titus county, nothing dries out.

almost all articles on morel growing say its unreliable. heres what i thinks going on.its uv. the mushroom huts grow in a sterile enviroment with a sterile grow medium, under non uv lights.
go back to how lye is made, its made with wood ash and water boiled.lye is bleach. bleach sterilizes but it can also kill mushrooms. mushroom spores can handle uv. the lye sterilzes the ground from uv hiting the wet carbon during light rain showers. heavy rain showers wash away lye.allowing mushrooms to grow. when neighbor was shooting me with microwave,my oak pile would not grow fungus, when he quit, they did. the microwave allowed more uv from sun onto wood, by drying the air. the wood would barely burn because lye chemically fireproofs wood. i had lots of dead trees from the drought of 2011 i used for firewood and it was terrible firewood even though it was really solid on the inside. lye control is the secret to mushroom yields. now the worlds production of mushrooms can increase. hacked another biological mystery!

it sprinkled yesterday morning. i grabbed up what weird oak logs i had from last springs tree cut down for firewood.the fork in the tree and some leg sized 2 ft long pieces, drilled the holes.i used whirls second year birthday candle to plug some holes with.it melted too slow, finally just broke off chunks and jammed them in the holes. i didnt have enough wax for most of the holes.so i filled them in with sawdust from drilling the holes for the fungi dowels. then i took creek water and soaked them.the bacteria in the creek water may kill them but i still have two thirds of a sealed bag. its hit and miss anyways.stuck the logs in a shady spot.it then quit drizzling outside,of course! went out this afternoon and they still looked good.maybe grew,we have 75°f ish temps right now.probably for another month. the cost was cheap,so im not out a big loss if it doesnt work but if it does, then my wife has all the shiitake mushrooms she wants.ill probably try some older dead wood tomorrow.a hundred wood pills is alot of holes and chances. to beginners, use a padel bit for holes.its way easier than a standard drill bit.i dont have one and i have to pull the bit out and get the shavings off.takes alot more time and effort.the plugs are 5/16,so you need a bit bigger than that size.im using a 7/16.
ill update this thread on response and results regularly as things happen with this experiment.

its raining! come on shiitakes! i took the other dowels and laid them in a fallen tree a few days ago,it was rotten already and had grooves in its side.i placed leaves on top of some and dirt on top others. yea,not sterile.im just playing around with them to see how agressive the fungi can be.i lucked out with the rain.maybe.

got the morel medium in today.it comes in a syringe with an alchohol cloth. the company is called rootmushroom.com. i watched a guy on youtube just use rainwater,a five gallon bucket, like two tablespoons of table salt, some molasses.mixed it together with the medium and aireate it with an air pump. i have a fish aquarium air pump.he did this outside in the open air and ran it for 24 hours. im gonna do that. im gonna warm the rain water inside for a day as its not warm outside.yes i know its not sterile.im not a lab,im a guy out in the boondocks.i didnt even get a chance to burn off a patch of debree for the plot and of course its finally raining.
as for the shiitake logs, when i was watering them, they looked like they may have been growing, once the rain started,it seems to have declined in growth and reversed.
this is all a slow process. the other plugs were on top a log.the rain was been like a drizzle, this helped soak them instead of just washing away.

i got my lids in today from mycovations.a small business by a lady in north carolina.they came in quick.so this is a shout out to her! these have a self healing injection port and a filter for when i pressure cook mason jars of seeds.plus a silicone gasket ring.i only needed a few and its easier to just buy them than dragging out tools, buying in bulk all the pieces and parts.im just a hobbiest not a business.
now i can cook some rye and inject the morel goop.grow a bunch of mycelium and not chance contamination.then mix it with more rye then make a garden bed for them.

i ended up making liquid culture instead.i used the lids and used mollasses in water. the one morel guy used mollasses so i figured i could use it as a food source for the morels culture. so anyways,i got canning jars done and cooling now, about to inoculate them and we will see.i may have put too much syrup.it pours out fast.i got about a tablespoon per freezer jar.

i got to get back in the habit of imgur pics, fbi really bummed me out after they kept jamming up my photobucket links. maybe youtube if the cops quit jamming my uploads.
i had ordered a mushroom kit of portabella mushrooms.it came in today, you add 4 cups of warm distilled water to casing, let stand two hours, mix in some of the fungi saw dust them spread the casing on top the fungi sawdust, seal bag and wait 5 days.
on the morel liquid, its got something growing, looks like jello on sides of jars and jello bits in bottom of jars.kinda cloudy.since all jars have same jello,i suspect they sterilized well.
on the outdoor shiitake dowels, most of the mycelium seems to have died back but i cant really see down in log holes and i dont want to disturb them.nor contaminate them.

i got some kind of mycelium growing and floating in the jars.i dont know if its morel but i suspect it is.its floating on the syrup water and was originally growing on the side of jar.i shook jars and it fell off and started growing more.
ive got about ten days until the portabellas sprout.it comes with a calendar notepad paper and since is days lined up with the first of the month,i can just follow the instructions as the calendar says.

heres the kit i bought. its not too much work.im at the day bag is opened and wet towel is put over it.i have white mycelium growing all over it well.mines more fuzzy that web like.could be due to the rain barrrel water im using.plus i may have not used 4 cups of water.i was guesstimating at the time. anyways heavily misted it with new spray bottle, covered with wet towell. opening it on the first really helps with keeping up with the dates of instructions.lady in video waited two weeks to open hers.so if you buy one,you may set it up to start on the first of the month to cut down on confusion of when to do things in the right order.

im not a fan of psilo, have no plans to grow them but i kinda like rogan sometimes and this small clip on lions mane made me think about trying to grow some of it at a later date.one of the things that happens with microwave exposure is thinning of myelium sheath.maybe i would gain some health effects from it.

so far the mushroom box is barely growing white stuff.probably because the air being dry from the drought.
thus my outsoor logs arent showing growth either.
the morel innoculant seems to have grown in the jars.i took the broken jar and dumped it in the old wood splitting pile of bark and saw dust. then i pressure cooked some rye seed with some water added to wet seeds in three jars, put innoculant in them yesterday.i can see something fuzzy growing in one jar now,24hrs later.
